Scientifically-Backed Garcinia Cambogia Weight Loss Results
Several high-quality (human-based) studies on Garcinia cambogia have shown promising results. One review revealed that Garcinia extracts led to an average weight loss of two pounds. The researchers concluded that Garcinia/HCA does result in weight loss, albeit short-term.
Here are a few other scientific studies proving the effectiveness of Garcinia cambogia.

Weight Loss of 6 Pounds after Two Months
Another study looked at the effects of Garcinia supplements and a daily diet with 1,000 calories. Group 1 received both, while Group 2 received a placebo.
After two months, Group 1 members lost 2.8 kilograms (6.17 pounds) compared to the 1.4 kg (3 pounds) lost by Group 2 members. The researchers also noted that those in Group 1 lost weight at a faster rate. As such, the researchers concluded Garcinia is effective for short-term weight management.

A Reduction in Total Fat Areas After 4 Months
In this study, 18 people took Garcinia extracts containing 1000 mg of HCA every day, for 12 weeks. They also received a placebo for four more weeks. The other group received a placebo throughout the study.
After four months, the Garcinia group had significantly reduced total fat areas. The findings were the same for their visceral and subcutaneous fat areas. These results were considerably different compared to the placebo group.

How Garcinia Cambogia Works
Some of the earliest studies found that HCA blocks adenosine triphosphate citrate lyase. Also known as “ACLY”, it’s an enzyme that converts both starches and sugars into fat.
So, when HCA blocks ACLY, it turns carbohydrates into energy sources. In short, HCA promotes the use of carbs as energy. Combined with physical energy exertion, say exercising, these carbs won’t accumulate as fats.

Moreover, HCA seems to have appetite-curbing effects. It appears to raise one’s satiety levels, which is the feeling of “being full”. This may be due to its serotonin-increasing effects.
Serotonin, also known as the “happy hormone”, is a natural mood stabilizer. However, it affects more than your emotions — it impacts your entire body. From digesting to motor skills to sleeping, serotonin is a key player in all these functions.

That said, supplementing with Garcinia may make you feel satisfied earlier than normal. Since you already feel satiated, then you may eat less than you usually do.
Remember, one of the key components of “eating less” — and the weight loss that follows — is portion control. Especially nowadays, where everything has gone supersized. From 1960 to 2007 alone, the average dinner plate has grown bigger by a whopping 36%.
